Print size and resolution calculator

Print size and resolution calculator

Understanding the size and resolution dimensions of a print design and getting it right is a key factor in getting the highest quality results and ensuring that your design is represented as accurately as possible in the physical print product. There are three types of dimensions that are relevant to print layout design: DPI (dots per inch), pixel count and millimetre count.

Use our design size and resolution calculator to ensure high quality in your designs. This calculator is tailored to three different situations and will help you calculate the design resolution (DPI), pixel dimensions or millimetre dimensions according to your needs.

DPI calculator

This calculator will allow you to easily check the resolution of your existing design. If you want to print your design in a certain format, it will help you to find out what DPI is required for the print size you have chosen. For this, you only need to have the length of one side in millimetres and pixels, and the DPI will be calculated based on the ratio of these sizes.

Pixel Calculator

This calculator will be needed in cases where you know the specific print product you want. Once you have entered the dimensions of the product and the required DPI resolution, the calculator will calculate how large you want your layout to be in pixels.

Millimetre Calculator

This calculator will be useful when you already have a design or a photo ready to print. By combining the pixel dimensions and the DPI resolution of the document, you will get the millimetre measurements, which will give you the maximum size of the print product you can print based on the design you have.

This calculator will allow you to quickly and accurately determine the required resolution and dimensions for your print designs. It will help you to properly prepare the technical parameters of your layout, which will allow you to produce top quality print products. What is DPI?

Resolution, or resolution, is expressed in dots per inch (dot per inch), abbreviated as – DPI. Basically, this dimension refers to the number of dots per inch of an image. In order to ensure high quality resolution, it is essential to set the right DPI before designing. If the print layout is set at a higher resolution than required, it does not result in a higher quality print, but it does increase the amount of space the layout takes up on the computer by several times. This is not a bad thing, but it can cause you unnecessary problems. If the resolution is too low, the image will be blurred, washed out, the lines of the design may not look the way you want them to, and you may end up with more angular lines.

Pixels

A pixel is the smallest unit of a digital image or graphic that can be displayed or printed. The detail and clarity of a digital image is usually measured in pixels per inch (PPI) or dots per inch (DPI). The higher the resolution, the more pixels per inch are packed into the image, resulting in a sharper and more detailed image.

As with DPI, it is important to ensure that the resolution is sufficient for the intended print size when preparing print designs.

Millimetres

Millimetres are an accurate, standard, universally accepted unit of measurement in the printing industry. Printers and design software often use millimetres to define the dimensions of printed material. Designers use millimetres to define the dimensions of layouts, margins and other important elements to ensure that the final print product meets the required standards and specifications. This standardisation helps to maintain consistency and accuracy in all parts of the process, from the creation of the design through to the physical printed product.
